Pastry
The famous Au Rex pastry shop, located in the heart of the pedestrian street and well known to the residents of Cagnes, is now run by Étienne, a former apprentice at the shop, and Célia. These two young pastry chefs are committed to preserving the identity and expertise of their predecessors, while infusing the shop with their own creativity. From Monday through Sunday morning, individual and shareable cakes, homemade chocolates from October through Easter, and confections lead the parade of sweet treats. Among them, Étienne’s flan stands out as one of the shop’s signature dishes, alongside the Rex’s historic specialties: the Parisian-style wafer, the delicious fig with marzipan, and the galet de Cagnes. On the savory side, the snack menu celebrates local flavors with pissaladière, pan bagnat, and prepared dishes—to take away or enjoy on the small terrace. But the Rex’s story is now also unfolding right across the street. With Les Jardins du Rex, Étienne and Célia are expanding the world of pastry with a new concept that blends a coffee shop, tea room, and brunch spot. From breakfast to afternoon tea, you’ll find the house’s signature creations, a selection of sweet and savory items, hot beverages, and a brunch menu designed for taking your time. The venue’s true gem lies at the back: a private garden, sheltered from the hustle and bustle of the pedestrian street. An unexpected retreat in the heart of Cagnes-sur-Mer, where guests come to enjoy a morning coffee, have lunch, savor brunch, or share a pastry in the afternoon. With Au Rex and Les Jardins du Rex, Étienne and Célia bring together the history of an iconic Cagnes establishment with a new, more contemporary and welcoming spot.
